We are delighted to introduce Letitia Pulliam as the January Member Spotlight for Altrusa International of Martinsville-Henry County, Inc.
Letitia has been a dedicated Altrusan since 2012 and currently serves our club as Secretary and a member of the Membership Committee. She is always willing to step in, help out, and support our service projects with a positive spirit and strong commitment.
Beyond Altrusa, Letitia works at Patrick & Henry Community College with the P&HCC Foundation and part-time at the Virginia Museum of Natural History. She also serves on the Board of the Fuller Center of Martinsville and Henry County and is a new member of the DAR, General Joseph Martin Chapter.
Letitia truly exemplifies the Altrusa ideals of service, leadership, and community bettermentāand in her spare time, she enjoys special moments with her family, especially her new grandson, Beckett.

Altrusa MHC - Servic Committee Meeting
ALTRUSA INTERNATIONAL OF MARTINSVILLE/HENRY COUNTY VA
The Altrusa MHC Service Committee met on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, with Chair Lillian Holland presiding. The committee reflected on a wide range of service projects accomplished this year, including a DfG Project; Veterans Day Cards; Pumpkin Patch support for Grace Network; food collections benefiting Piedmont Arts and Grace Network; Once Upon a Week reading sessions; Holiday Activity Sheets; a prepared meal for the MartinsvilleāHenry County Warming Center; the Loads of Literacy project; and membersā ongoing monthly donations of childrenās books.
Lillian led a thoughtful discussion on service projects planned for the remainder of the service year. The meeting was a meaningful time of planning, reflection, and fellowship.

From Laundry to Literacy: Harvest Youth Board Grants $5K to
Promote Reading
Local Altrusa organization awarded $5,000 to Promote Literacy in Martinsville-Henry County
Martinsville, VA ā The Harvest Youth Board has awarded a $5,000 grant to Altrusa International of Martinsville-Henry County to support its “Loads of Literacy: Books for All” program. This program helps ensure access to age-appropriate books and encourages a lifelong love of reading by providing access to books in local laundromats. āAltrusa International of Martinsville-Henry County is grateful to the Harvest Youth Board for this generous grant,ā said Linda Dorr, Immediate Altrusa International District Two Past Governor. āThis support allows us to continue promoting literacy by putting books in the hands of children and families throughout MHC.ā Dianne Vann, Past District Governor and Altrusa MHC member, added,āThis grant will allow us to place books in the hands of children and in homes where the need is greatest. We sincerely thank the Youth Board for helping us build a better Martinsville-Henry County community.ā
Altrusa International of Martinsville-Henry County also provides free books at community events like the Grace Network Pumpkin Patch, Oktoberfest, and childcare centers. Books are carefully selected to match developmental stages, support vocabulary growth, and inspire a love of stories. The Youth Board recognizes that providing children with books outside the classroom supports its mission of creating leadership opportunities for the youth of Martinsville-Henry County by fostering learning, personal growth, and a love of reading āWe are incredibly grateful to be a part of the vision Altrusa brought to us – to put books in the hands of our local youth. I hope that each book is a blessing of excitement, joy, learning, and community!ā stated Chloe Wood, Harvest Youth Board Grants Committee Chair.

Loads of Literacy Continues
Just like your own laundry, the work never stops! Members of Altrusa MHC continue to fill our laundromat libraries with childrenās booksāinviting families to read a book, take a book, share a bookand love a book.
As District Two reminds us, we are writing our own story ā āa library of Altrusans ā one book, one child, and one load at a time.ā
Special thanks to Deborah Belcher, Letitia Pulliam, Deloris East, and Lillian Holland for keeping our shelves filled with books!
"Leading To A Better Community" "Writing Our Story"
On a chilly, rainy Saturday afternoon, members of Altrusa International of Martinsville-Henry County, Inc. gathered for our January meeting with a special focus on Leadership.
Linda Dorr presented a thoughtful leadership program, followed by our business meeting led by Club President Lillian Holland. Members then worked together to prepare a meal for 40 guests at the Martinsville-Henry County Warming Centerāfrom prepping vegetables and packaging rolls to homemade desserts and kitchen clean-up.
A special word of appreciation to Lillian Holland, Club President, for graciously hosting our meeting at Horsepasture Christian Church, and for organizing both the meal preparation and delivery to the Martinsville-Henry County Warming Center. Your leadership and dedication truly made the afternoon meaningful.
Lillian Holland and her husband, Darryl, delivered all 40 meals to the Warming Center. It was truly an afternoon of fellowship, collaboration, and serviceāāleading to a better community. ā
